Community bursary offers Northumberland charities a chance to walk away with £5k

Manor Walks is granting Northumberland charities the opportunity to walk away with £5000 after it launched its annual community bursary scheme this week.

Set in the heart of Cramlington, Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure is offering its visitors the chance to place their chosen charity in the running to receive substantial funding from the Hammerson Local Community Bursary, which will award a £5,000 grant to one local organisation.

Funded by Hammerson, the scheme supports charities which undertake vital work in the communities that the company operates in. All registered charities working across Northumberland with a focus on children and young people, health or local regeneration of community infrastructures and facilities can be nominated.

Bruno Coppola, general manager at Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure, said: “Our Local Community Bursary scheme, which is funded by Hammerson, offers a fantastic opportunity for one Northumberland charity to receive essential funding that will make a genuine difference to their work and to the communities which it supports.

“As Manor Walks remains at the centre of the Cramlington community we are proud to be helping to raise awareness of how the county’s charities are working to improve the lives of people living throughout the county, while also offering our customers the opportunity to support the good causes which really mean something them.

“We’re very excited to hear all about the amazing work which is being delivered in the area and we’d like to encourage our loyal customers to get involved by nominating their favourite local charity.”

Visitors to Manor Walks can nominate their chosen charity by completing an application form, available on request from the Centre Management, which should be returned by 5pm on Friday June 06, 2014. Application forms can either be collected in person from the Manor Walks Centre Management Suite or by emailing info@manorwalks.co.uk.

Manor Walks’ 2013 beneficiary, Blyth Valley Scout District used the much needed funding to purchase new camping and sports equipment, to help with the maintenance of its buildings and to provide additional training for its leaders, while the bursary has also helped to attract new members as well as recruiting new volunteers.

Stu Bennett, media development manager for Blyth Valley Scout District, added: “The support which we have received from Manor Walks since we were awarded the Community Bursary Scheme in 2013 has been invaluable and it has had a real impact on the lives of the young people which we work with.

“The recruitment of new leaders is crucial in ensuring the longevity of Blyth Valley Scout District and through the support we’ve received from Manor Walks we’ve seen a spike in interest from potential new leaders. It really was a very simple application process and I’d urge people to get their nomination in as quickly as possible to ensure a charity which really matters to them is in with a chance of receiving the bursary.”
