Sheffield accountant covers 72 miles for local charity – so far

Rebecca Sutton is really going that extra mile for charity – in fact, she’s gone an extra 72 miles so far by completing almost half of the gruelling 12 sports events she plans to undertake this year to raise money for Weston Park Cancer Support Centre.

Twenty-three year old Rebecca, an associate in assurance at business adviser Grant Thornton in Sheffield, decided to challenge herself and raise money for Weston Park Cancer Support Centre by taking part in a fundraising event each month during 2014. She made the decision after joining colleagues from Grant Thornton last year who completed the Sheffield Half Marathon for the centre which has provided support to her Nannan and Grandpa over the last couple of years. Rebecca decided that during 2014 she would continue to raise funds for the charity with a series of runs, walks and triathlons.

Rebecca is now almost half-way through her fundraising events having completed the Lancashire Half Marathon , Sleaford Half Marathon , Coniston 14, a 5km swim, Sheffield Half Marathon and North Berwick Triathlon.

“I’m really enjoying taking part in the challenges and I’m lucky that my family and friends are giving me so much support by joining me in many of the events,” comments Rebecca. “Having seen first hand how much Weston Park Cancer Support Centre helped my Nannan a couple of years ago and is now helping my Grandpa, I really wanted to do everything I could to raise funds for this wonderful charity and also to increase awareness of the valuable work it does.

“So far, I’ve raised £800 and I’m hoping that I can beat my £1,500 target and raise £2,000 by the end of the year.”

Rebecca is still facing a number of daunting events including the Rother Valley Sprint Distance Triathlon; the 15 mile Round Sheffield Run; the 27 mile Peak District TrekFest walk; and two 10km mud runs in the space of 24 hours.
