New home kicks thousands off energy bills

A leading housebuilder is encouraging people to buy a new home at a Hartlepool development as they could save more than £1,300 on energy bills.

Persimmon Homes Teesside said today’s buyer needs to consider the cost savings associated with buying a newly-built home at their development, The Hawthorns, as opposed to an older property.

Christine Cooper, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Teesside, said: “According to recent research by the NHBC (National Housing Building Council), those who live in new build homes, built to today’s standards, could save more than £1,300 a year on their energy bills when compared with people who buy older properties.

“The research indicates that a four-bedroom detached new home could be 57 per cent* cheaper to run than an updated Victorian equivalent. And our three-bedroom semi-detached design could be 53 per cent* cheaper to run than an older build of the same style.”

Persimmon Homes Teesside has predicted that with the £1,300 savings per year estimated by the NHBC, families could save approximately £32,500 over the lifetime of a 25-year mortgage.

Christine added: “New homes offer enormous cost savings to households, both annually and over the lifetime of a mortgage.

“And while energy efficiency is only one of the advantages of buying a new build property, the potential to save such a large amount of money per year could mean the difference between buying a small home and your forever home.”

The Hawthorns offers a selection of three and four-bedroom homes in the popular Bishop Cuthbert area of Hartlepool, with the town centre and marina only a five-minute drive away. The Hartlepool Marina hosted the Tall Ships Race in 2010.

Enjoying all the benefits of the North East coast, The Hawthorns also has great commuter links being close to the A19, and within easy reach of both the A66 and A1(M), allowing easy access to all of the major North East towns.
