One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson in bid to buy Doncaster Rovers

It has been reported that boy band One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson is on the verge of making a bid for struggling Doncaster Rovers.

According to The Sun Louis is planning to join forces with businessman John Ryan, who previously owned the club before selling off a large share to a consortium whilst retaining a quarter of his stake in it.

Doncaster-born Louis, who played for the reserve team of the League One club in February, bringing in huge crowds, plans to buy the club outright according to The Sun’s sources, which would make him the first pop star chair of a league club since Elton John bought Watford in 1976.

The director of Doncaster Rovers, Brian Flynn , based at the Keepmoat Stadium boosted support for their chosen charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, by signing Louis on a non-contract basis.

Last November, chairman John Ryan stepped down after 15 years, minutes before the kick-off against a Championship encounter against Barnsley at Oakwell.

This was amid reports of boardroom disagreements following a proposed takeover bid by a hedge-fund consortium lead by Sequentia Capital, which the Rovers ultimately rejected.
