100 years in the making for centenary cycle challenge

THE centenary of the Royal Town Planning Institute was marked by a 100 kilometre cycling ride along the Tyne valley.

Over 30 members of the North East region of the RTPI took part in the Centenary Cycle challenge last month which saw riders travel from Newcastle’s Quayside to Hexham and back.

The challenge was organised by Caroline Strugnell of Bellway Homes with support from Kay Lough of the RTPI and sponsored by planning and economic consultants Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP) and consultancy Barton Willmore.

Stephen Litherland, chairman of RTPI North East and group planning manager at housebuilder Bellway Homes, said: “It was fantastic to see RTPI members come together from all sectors to share in the North East’s Centenary Celebrations.

“Thank you to our sponsors Barton Willmore and Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners and to everyone who participated in a great day.”

Jonathan Wallace, Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners Director and Office Leader: “We are delighted to support the RTPI in its Centenary year, and this was a great event which brought together all sectors of the planning profession to celebrate the role of the RTPI.”

The event is one of a number being held in the region to mark the RTPI’s 100th birthday and will culminate in a Special Centenary Ball and Awards ceremony in October.
