MBNA team teach Cheshire children the importance of maths

A team of MBNA staff helped make maths fun for children as part of the ‘Amazed by Science’ festival at Chester Racecourse last week.

Eleven employees from MBNA’s Innovation Hub and Credit Risk Strategies & Enterprise Analytics departments spent weeks planning a special ‘Amazed by Maths’ with MBNA workshop, designed to illustrate the importance of number skills when pursuing a career in financial services.

The session was attended by children and families and included a number of interactive activities, such as the application of statistics using chocolate, code and programming and a simulation exercise to let children run their own credit card empire!

Heather Shaw, Head of Credit Risk Infrastructure & Operations and leader of the ‘Amazed by Maths’ workshop, said: “We really enjoyed being involved in the Amazed by Science festival.

“The interactive activities we were able to run and the level of engagement and interest we got from our audience was really pleasing. Hopefully we’ve inspired some local children to consider a career in financial services in the future.”

The Cheshire-wide ‘Amazed by Science’ festival was designed to encourage more young people to consider careers in science, technology, engineering or maths.
