Sporting challenge raises money for children’s charity

A keen fundraiser has taken on a double sporting challenge to raise thousands of pounds for a local charity.

Peter Bartley, a director at Bradley Hall, took part in the fifth annual golf day organised by charity Heel & Toe and led his team to a resounding victory, raising £6,500 for the organisation in the process.

Now Peter is gearing up for a gruelling biking challenge that will see him cycle 350 miles across Italy in the space of four days from 3rd June.

The fitness fanatic is hoping his biking achievements will raise another four-figure sum of money for Heel & Toe, which provides support to children with cerebral palsy and other physical conditions.

Peter said: “This will be one of my biggest ever sporting challenges. We will be cycling from the heel of Italy to the toe, which is quite apt as we will be raising money for a worthwhile charity bearing a similar name.

“It will be good fun but extremely hard work and a lot of endurance will be required. I’ve already raised more than £1,000 thanks to donations from friends and clients and I hope that this total will increase further.”

Doug Long, chief executive of Heel & Toe, said: “We are very grateful to Peter and Bradley Hall for their support. As a charity we rely heavily on donations from generous individuals and companies so that we can continue to improve the services that we offer.”

Launched in 2008, Heel & Toe is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of therapies to children with cerebral palsy. These include physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and conductive education, which is a system of learning designed specifically for children with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.

The Durham-based organisation carries out a wide variety of fundraising activities, including the recent Onesie Walk and the upcoming Zip Slide from the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.

Peter Bartley said: “We’re delighted to support this charity, which does sterling work for young people and their carers across the region. The organisation is very proactive in its fundraising activities and people who do get involved have a fun and enjoyable time.”
