Software company to double size of Newcastle operation
A national software company is doubling in size just four months after opening an office in the North East.
SGP Consulting was launched in Swindon in 2009 and after seeing a surge in demand for its services, made the decision to expand and establish a presence in the region.
The company, which counts Siemens, EDF Energy and Audi UK among its clients, already employs 15 people in Newcastle with a further 10 at its offices in Swindon and Bristol.
And with further contract wins in the pipeline, the company has confirmed it is doubling the space it occupies at Riverside House at Newburn Riverside while recruitment will be stepped up to meet the increase in demand. SGP is also aiming to take turnover to around £1.25 million by the end of the current financial year.
Derek Groves, business development Director at SGP, said: “In the first few months of business in the North East, we’ve secured significant contract wins and with the expected growth of current projects and the likelihood of more clients being announced in the coming months, we’ve stepped up recruitment, doubled our office space and decided to make Newcastle our head office with our sites in Swindon and Bristol supporting our activity.”
The growth comes on the back of the company being recognised by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) as a high growth business with potential, which has resulted in SGP receiving multiple rounds of funding from Government to support a sustainable development programme which includes securing new clients and taking on more staff.
The company has now been added to the Government’s G Cloud framework, an online marketplace for IT suppliers to offer their services to the public sector for commodity based cloud services. In its first year over £175m of business has been generated as a result of the framework.
Steve Purvis, founder and managing director of SGP Consulting, said: “The G-Cloud framework is a tremendous opportunity for enhancing the Government’s procurement of cloud-based software, mutually achieving new opportunities for SME software companies and providing best value for public IT expenditure.
“Being awarded a contract under the G-Cloud framework is a significant achievement and is representative of the high quality services being provided by SGP to the public sector and beyond.
“Being from the region makes me personally very proud of what the North East IT industry is achieving and continues to inspire our growth.”
SGP Consulting is currently recruiting for experienced software developers. To find out more contact the company on 0191 580 0330 or email info@sgpconsulting.co.uk.
