Over 3,000 runners gear up for BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K
The ninth annual BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K takes place this Sunday (8 June) with race entries closing at 3,100 runners.
The point to point course takes on a slightly revised route, starting in Blackstock Street in Liverpool City Centre at 9.30am.
The race finishes on Ian Fraser Walk in New Brighton, just past Perch Rock and the Marine Lake. The first runners home are expected to complete the 10K in just over 30 minutes.
New Brighton is an ideal finish point, with plenty going on to encourage runners and their supporters to stay in the area and enjoy a day out in Wirral.
Wirral Council’s Sports Development Team will be present on the day with fun activities to promote next month’s Open Championship.
Golf Professionals will host golf taster sessions to try their hand at the sport, with inflatable golf nets for the youngsters. The Open takes place at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, starting on 14 July.
BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell commented:
“The Mersey Tunnel 10K remains as popular as ever with entries peaking at 3,100 runners. It really is a race with a difference, and is a favourite with runners who come back year after year purely for the experience of running through the iconic Kingsway Tunnel – something you cannot do every day.
“Runners emerge from the Tunnel, running along the Wirral coast from Seacombe to New Brighton – seeing the course ahead of them, as far as the eye can see. The finish area is perfect for spectators to cheer the runners on, so come along and make a day of it.”
