Persimmon 'putts' charity first

Scottish golf enthusiasts linked with the construction industry teed-off to raise cash for a national cancer charity.

The one-day charity golf event, organised by leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes East Scotland, took place on 25th April at the Deer Park Golf and Country Club near Livingston raising over £8,000 for the well known cancer support charity Macmillan.

In total 19 teams of 4 golfers came together to compete for first, second and third place and test their skills for the chance to win £20,000 or a BMW car in the ‘hole in one’ challenge.

Winning team, Stirling-based Maitland Builders, said: “We were delighted to take part in the event and feel very proud to be the winning team. We were up against some great golfers so it’s a real achievement to have come out on top.”

The event culminated in a presentation dinner and auction with lots including a round of golf at Royal Burgess and the chance to play a round at this year’s Ryder Cup course at the acclaimed Gleneagles Hotel.

Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, Jim Kirkpatrick, added: “It was a fantastic event that everyone thoroughly enjoyed and raising £8,000 to support the essential work carried out by Macmillan Cancer Support makes it all the more worthwhile.

“We managed to raise £4,288.76 through entry fees, donations and hole sponsors and a further £750 from the auction but felt that such a deserving cause warranted an additional contribution of £3,000 directly from Persimmon Homes. Our cheque totalling £8,038.76 will be handed over to Macmillan next week.”

Macmillan Fundraising Manager, Linda Hamilton, added: “This is a fantastic amount raised for us; we rely on our supporters to fundraise for us as 98% of our monies come from the public. In West Lothian, Macmillan has put £520,000 into refurbishing of the Macmillan Centre, based at St John’s Hospital. We also have an information centre at Carmondean Library that supports advisors who have a helped people affected by cancer get the benefits they are entitled to.

“Macmillan could not provide these services without our wonderful supporters like Persimmon Homes.”
