South Shields health practice urges Tynesiders to put their feet up
According to medical experts putting your feet up is actually good for you and residents in South Tyneside are being urged to do just that by a leading health care practice.
The Westoe Practice, a private health and wellness practice based in South Shields, has been awarded an NHS contract to look after South Tyneside’s soles, heels and toes and promises to improve patient wellbeing and cut down waiting times for residents with foot related health problems.
Dean Glozier, owner and senior podiatrist at Westoe Practice, said: “Poor foot health can be debilitating, reducing mobility and has a major impact on our general health and wellbeing.
The good news is that eligible South Tyneside residents can come in, put their feet up, and benefit from free podiatry services at The Westoe Practice via simple referral from their GP.
We aim to cut down extended waiting times and get people back onto healthier feet faster.“
The contract was awarded to The Westoe Practice as part of a regional investment in outsourced podiatry care through GP referral in Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside.
“One of the biggest benefits to a private practice providing NHS podiatry care is that we can see patients within two weeks of them presenting at a doctor’s surgery, which relieves pressure on the NHS and delivers expert care to the South Tyneside public,” added Mr. Glozier.
Patients must be over 16 years and can access this service via the NHS Choose and book scheme, liaising directly with their local GP. The new scheme is provided on behalf of North East Podiatry Ltd, through the Any Qualified Provider Model and focuses on the needs of those with low and medium levels of foot health needs including painful nail pathologies, dermatological conditions, corns, callus and fissures, heel pain and metatarsalgia.
The South Shields-based practice currently employs seven full time registered chiropodists and podiatrists and is currently undergoing a major expansion in the business with plans underway to extend the clinical space for patient treatment and recruit additional podiatrists.
The Westoe Practice was founded by Dean Glozier in 1995 and has over 11,000 customers from across the North East.
As well as providing podiatry and chiropody the practice is a centre for health and wellbeing, providing physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, acupuncture, bio-mechanical analysis and alternative therapies.
