Wetherby cycle megastore creates a further 4 jobs after £1 million expansion

Just weeks after the opening of the region’s largest cycling megastore in Wetherby, All Terrain Cycles has recruited four new members of staff to meet demand at the new business.

The six-strong team at the 9,000sq ft Wetherby showroom now includes Jason Drew, Tom Bentley and Daniel Taylor in its sales team; plus mechanic Andrew Johnson who will assist workshop manager Joe Belt.

Jason has ten years’ experience in sales and mechanics while Tom is a keen cyclist with retail and distribution experience.

The complete transformation of the two storey retail unit on Audby Lane on the outskirts of the town, close to the A1, follows a £1 million investment.

The new showroom stocks over 1,000 mountain, road and BMX bikes plus clothing and accessories including leading brands such as Trek and Cannondale. It also features a workshop staffed by trained technicians able to carry out repairs and servicing.

Originally established in 1907, the growth of the £3 million turnover business is based on the success of its well-known retail outlet at Salts Mill, Saltaire in Shipley, as well as a thriving online business.

All Terrain Cycles managing director Tony Booth said “Opening our second store in the region is another landmark in our development and we are proud to have established ourselves as one of the largest cycle retailers in the North of England.”

“We’ve been incredibly busy in our first few weeks of opening with the launch period exceeding expectations. Yorkshire is riding on a cycling wave and we’ve tapped into pent-up demand for a quality retail outlet offering a huge choice and competitive prices, staffed by enthusiasts who really understand bikes.

“We’re fortunate to have quickly built a fantastic team in Wetherby, boasting an impressive total of more than 80 years’ experience between us,”

All Terrain Cycles is a family business employing 25 staff. Originally trading as Riley Brothers Cycles, the firm was based at premises in Crosshills until the move to Salts Mill in 2007.

The business was acquired from the Riley family by Tony in 1996 and has grown from a turnover of £45,000 in 1995 to over £3 million in 2013.

All Terrain Cycles is one of the UK’s largest independent cycle retailers and, as well as the Saltaire showroom, also has a 12,000 sq ft warehouse at Salts Mill which is the base for the firm’s thriving e-commerce business.
