Happy Birthday! The MonoX NeON turns one with a bang

A little over a year ago, in April 2014, we introduced the MonoX NeON module to the market. The MonoX NeON is a monocrystalline high-performance solar module with a peak output of up to 300 watts. Since then, the module has been awarded with accolades including the Intersolar Award 2013 and the Plus X Award.

The module is based on N-type cells and provides 20 per cent more output than the previous module, MonoX. It’s lighter, so easier to install – and has improved assembly mechanisms. The focus is on the bi-facial cell, which captures the light reflected from the back sheet onto the back of the cell, resulting in an increase in light yield, energy and consequently, financial return for the user. Double anti-reflective coatings on each cell, anti-reflective glass and a reduction of the temperature coefficient increase efficiency even further.

On it’s first birthday, we spoke to some of our customers to see how the MonoX NeON series fared in real-life and uncovered some great customer stories.

The ‘Technischen Betriebe’ in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland, commissioned HELVETIC PV to design a high-performance solar system. The company built the system with 290 Wp modules of the MonoX NeON series. After a year, the actual yield was 8 per cent higher than calculated.

Bollman Electronics in Brunswick had the same experience. They used 20 modules with 285 Kp power output and a total capacity of 5.7 kWp for the roof system of a customer. Within the first year, the solar system generated 10 per cent and 553 more kilowatt hours of electricity than projected.

Solar experts too, have complete confidence in the MonoX NeON modules. Henrik Borreby, CEO of BayWa r.e., one of the UK’s leading wholesale suppliers to the solar PV installer network, decided to install a NeON system in his own home, aiming to reduce his dependency on the grid and save electricity costs. After a year of operation, it produced nearly 15 per cent more energy than was calculated.

These examples show what a real powerhouse the MonoX NeON is, after only celebrating it’s paper anniversary! Due to high demand, LG Solar is also going to expand its manufacturing capacity. The increased longevity of the cells will lead to even greater savings for the user. In the future, solar modules using n-type silicon wafers will become a staple in the solar photovoltaic industry.
