Seatechs unveiled as Miles for Men sponsor
Offshore recruitment specialist Seatechs has been announced as corporate sponsor for the 2014 series of Miles for Men charity runs across the country.
The charity has raised more than £85,000 by hosting men only fun-runs to raise funds for cancer charities in the UK. This summer, Miles for Men will be staging 5km events in Hartlepool, Gateshead and Sunderland and is aiming to take its funds raised well beyond the £100,000 milestone.
Seatechs, which sends offshore workers and deck crews to work on oil, gas and energy projects across the world, will benefit from corporate branding at all Miles for Men events along with website and social media presence.
Paul Cave, Managing Director of Seatechs, said: “As a business which predominantly deals with men, we are extremely proud to be announced as corporate sponsor for the 2014 series of runs. Everyone is affected by cancer at some stage in their lives, whether that is a family member, relative, a friend or even ourselves.
“Miles for Men is an amazing charity which has set the standard high in terms of raising awareness of cancers that impact on men. The fun runs are a great idea which have grown in popularity every year – it’s fantastic that they are now taking place across the region and hopefully we will see even more events in years to come.”
The first Miles for Men fun run took place along the Hartlepool seafront in August 2012 with more than 1000 male participants raising £40,000 alone.
The idea came from founder Michael Day Jnr who sadly lost his father to the disease.
Michael wanted to do something in memory of his dad and suggested a sponsored run for men. After five months of overwhelming support, organisation and late nights, Miles for Men was born.
Michael said: “When I started planning the first run, I had no idea that within a couple of years we would have runs not just in the North East but now across the country.
“It’s great to think that this summer, we will have thousands of men pounding the streets to raise funds for cancer charities. I am immensely proud to have Seatechs on board as our corporate sponsor, they are a well-known, respected business and I know that a lot of the lads on their books have supported Miles for Men by running in our events over the years.”
This summer’s Miles for Men 5km fun runs take place at at Gibside in Gateshead on Sunday, July 19; at The Sports Domes in Hartlepool on Sunday, July 27; and at Herrington Country Park in Sunderland, on Sunday, August 3. Organisers are also hoping to arrange more fun runs in Durham and Newcastle later in the year.
