Leading automotive companies in Coventry and Warwickshire will showcase the innovative work taking place in the region at a major event next month.

Speakers from Jaguar Land Rover and Prodrive will be among the automotive experts taking to the stage at Silverstone in Northamptonshire at the Driving Technological Change within British Manufacturing event on Wednesday, July 2.

The event, which has been organised to celebrate the 50th Formula One Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit, is being developed by the Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP) along five other LEPs including Coventry and Warwickshire.

The day’s activities will showcase product diversity and innovation in the UK, demonstrating how motorsport influences technological change in sectors such as automotive, aerospace and defence.

It will celebrate the major significance of the motorsport and engineering industry to a national and international audience, as well as looking at new opportunities for growth.

Tim Bagshaw, Head of Investment at Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP) said: “High Performance Technologies are a key area for growth in the UK, and this event will bring together the businesses and organisations that are driving the sector forward.

“Experts will share information on new technology trends, looking at the huge opportunity of transferring skills and experience from motorsport to mainstream automotive and beyond.

“The event will also identify technological advancements and new opportunities for the UK supply chain.”

Other industry speakers will include Delta Motorsport, Total Sim, Sigma Composites, Cosworth, Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Reynard Motorsport, Virgin Racing Formula E and Xtrac.

The event will cover innovations and developments in materials and composites, how Powertrain regulations within motorsport will influence future developments within mainstream automotive, the electrification of vehicles and state of the art aerodynamic technologies and the transferability of all this knowledge and skill to mainstream vehicle development.

The event has been developed by NEP in association with Local Enterprise Partnerships in the South East Midlands, Coventry and Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire and Bucks Thames Valley together with UK Trade and Investment, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Automotive Council, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the Motor Industry Association.
