Sound of music to mark Hoar Cross’ Summer Fayre

A musical treat is being lined up by one of East Staffordshire’s leading nursing homes when it holds its annual Summer Fayre next week (June 28th).

Hoar Cross, which is situated just off Abbots Bromley Road, is urging local people to get behind the event to raise money for the League of Friends and celebrate ten years under the current ownership.

For the first time, ‘The Crooked Bawbees’ will be performing traditional Northumbrian folk music and will joined by local entertainers the Uttoxeter Morris Men and the Uttoxeter Town Brass Band.

After proving such a big hit last year, the vintage and classic car show will also be returning, with visitors encouraged to see firsthand the legendary Austin 7 and 1911 ‘Maxwell’ with wooden wheels.

The Summer Fayre starts at 2pm and will be officially opened by Cllr Ron Clarke, the Mayor of East Staffordshire.

Kathy Clever, General Manager, commented: “Music is something our residents love so we’ve decided to make it our main theme this year, with ‘The Crooked Bawbees’ playing for the first time.

“If you want to escape the World Cup, there’s plenty of other things going on to keep you and the family entertained, including face painting, bric-a-brac, over 20 stalls, a BBQ and a chance to have a go at ‘Splat the Rat’.

She continued: “We had over 400 people attend last year and believe we can top 500, which will help us fund new equipment for the home, provide future activities and organise trips out.

“We try very hard to ensure our residents have a good quality of life with choices that stimulate them. It is also important that all the events we hold give family and friends the chance to spend time with their loved ones.”

The raffle promises to be the best yet, with prizes ranging from a mini iPad and voucher for treatments at Hoar Cross Hall to a M6 Toll Road pass and flying lesson at Tatenhill Aviation.

In keeping with the World Cup, there is also a guided tour of England’s St George’s Park Football Centre up for grabs.

Kathy concluded: “The Fayre is a great opportunity for the local community to come together, have fun, meet our staff and get to know our residents.”

Hoar Cross Nursing Home, which is rated excellent by the Care Quality Commission, is set within two acres of landscaped grounds in rural East Staffordshire.

Its team of professionals provides outstanding care for the elderly, disabled people, residents suffering from dementia and those in need of respite and palliative care.
