Barratt Homes celebrates 400,000th home with oak tree planting

Award-winning homebuilder marks completion of 400,000th home with celebratory oak tree planting at Berry Edge in Consett

Trees will be planted across the UK in celebration of the milestone and the new Barratt Homes brand identity

Barratt Homes has announced the completion of its 400,000th home, while unveiling a new brand identity which will be rolled out across the country.

Reflecting the importance of green space, nature, and the ecology and biodiversity of new homes developments, Barratt will plant 400,000 trees and shrubs over the next 18 months in celebration of reaching this landmark.

Marking the milestone, Frank Bell, Chairman of Consett football club, kicked off the initiative locally by planting the first oak tree in the area at Barratt North East’s Berry Edge development in Genesis Way.

The oak tree is important to the Barratt brand. As well as representing its commitment to sustainability and planting, the tree is at the heart of its logo.

The first Barratt company was founded in Newcastle more than 50 years ago and has since grown to become the UK’s leading homebuilder.

Neil Milburn, Development Director at Barratt Homes North East, said: “I am delighted that Frank Bell could join us to plant this oak tree, which will grow as the community does at Berry Edge.

“We are very proud of the homes we build and also the communities we are creating around the region.

“Here at Consett we have completed three successful schemes in the last ten years, providing 300 homes plus investment and jobs for local people, and our two latest developments will deliver another 319 new homes.”
