Esh group begins major housing development in Hartlepool

Hartlepool Council is working with North-East construction company Esh Group on the multimillion pound project in Seaton Carew.

As well as new housing, there are proposals for improvements to community facilities and major regeneration of the seafront area including leisure attractions and new children’s play facilities.

Phase one will begin in the next few weeks when work will start on building 35 new homes on land adjacent to Seaton Carew Nursery School on the site off Elizabeth Way occupied by the sports hall and youth centre, which will be demolished.

The houses will be a mixture of two, three and four-bedroomed family homes plus bungalows.

Construction will be phased over the next 24 months, with the first group of houses expected to be completed and on sale towards the end of this year.

The money generated from the sale of the land to Esh Homes will be channelled into the next proposed phases of the Seaton regeneration.

Councillor Robbie Payne, chair of the Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “In Esh Group we have a highly-respected partner with which we can work to make the regeneration of Seaton Carew a reality, and I am delighted that the construction work on the first phase is about to begin.”

Geoff Woodcock, managing director of Esh Developments, added: “We fully endorse the Hartlepool Vision and we are delighted to be working with the Council on this exciting project.

“It is very forward-thinking for a council to plan to develop three separate areas of land and to channel the proceeds into such a major regeneration of the area.

“The first phase of that plan is now underway and we look forward to playing our part in making the rest a reality too.”
