Sheffield firm takes off with new installation at Delhi Airport Metro Express

A South Yorkshire based smoke and fire curtain manufacturer has today announced the successful installation of its smoke and fire curtains at the Delhi Airport Metro Express.

Sheffield based BLE Fire and Smoke Curtains were tasked with the supply, design and installation of its market leading smoke and fire curtains by the Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL), to protect the metro’s operation and retail areas in the event of a fire.

BLE were introduced to DAMEPL through its new agent in the region, Transcend Exim Pvt Limited, who were already contracted to the project.

The new Airport Metro Express elevates India’s capital to the elite ranks of the small number of cities worldwide that boast a high-speed rail link connecting the city to its international airport. The line stretches for 22.7km and has been used by as many as 17,000 people a day.

The Metro system dramatically improves commuting to and from the imposing new Terminal 3 of the Indira Ghandi International (IGI) Airport. Six new stations have been created on the line, and there are also shopping centres at two of them.

Dave Millington, divisional director at BLE said: “This was a fantastic large scale project for BLE to be involved in, and it was a pleasure working with Transcend Exim Pvt Limited. Our contract at the Delhi Airport Metro Express adds to an already impressive international portfolio.

“Our smoke and fire curtains incorporate the latest in electronic technology, ensuring we are first choice among designers, architects and engineers looking for innovative safety solutions.”
