Manchester LED firm’s shining success in carbon saving

Manchester-based LED lighting specialist, One Electrical, has helped the UK reduce its carbon emissions by more than 150,000 tonnes over the past three years, making a lasting contribution to tackling climate change.

The impressive figure is based on the company’s sales of LED lighting, which have rocketed thanks to a growth in demand and an ongoing commitment to widening its product range to suit all domestic and commercial requirements.

The Worsley-based company has sold in excess of one million LED units over the past three years, which equates to carbon savings of 50,000 tonnes per year, the equivalent to planting 250,000 trees.

Managing director, Gerard Hall: said: “In commercial installations, lighting from a traditional fluorescent, incandescent or halogen installation can account for up to 60% of the electricity used. Converting to LEDs can save between 60-90% of that electricity, depending on the commercial environment, which means much lower bills and significantly reduced carbon emissions.

“While most new buildings now have very efficient lighting systems installed at the time of construction to comply with building regulations, many existing offices, factories, shops and schools are wasting electricity and generating carbon unnecessarily by failing to convert to LEDs.

“The environmental and operational savings that LED lights can provide are proven and, with our new Capex Free financing approach which helps customers to spread the cost while recouping the savings from month one, there is no reason to delay switching.”

A Carbon Trust accredited supplier, One Electrical specialises in providing LED fittings that enable like-for-like replacement of existing traditional lighting installations on a retrofit basis.

Mr Hall added: “The good news is that demand is increasing all the time so the message is getting through about the cost and energy savings that switching to LED can provide.

“We are very proud of the carbon savings our products have generated and look forward to improving that track record still further in the future.”
