Security proves key to 500 per cent growth of pioneering scheme

An innovative key replacement programme, spearheaded by Shipley-based Keycare and Suffolk Constabulary has marked a 500 per cent increase in members over the last 12 months.

In a UK first, the groundbreaking SAFEkey lost key recovery and key registration service provides residential and business owners protection and assistance if they lose keys – enabling police to access unattended property in the event of an incident.

Launched in 2012, the unique safety scheme has been taken up by thousands of people – as reinforced by the fivefold surge in members when compared to the same period last year. It was showcased by Suffolk Constabulary at this year’s Suffolk Show, which attracted over 70,000 visitors, including Prince Harry.

Keycare - the UK’s largest provider of insurance for lost and stolen keys, whose clients span small and medium sized enterprises and blue chip organisations across sectors including banking, motor insurance and retail - scored 100% in the force’s stringent procurement process for SAFEkey.

In a ‘win win’, the service frees up police time to fight crime and the money generated by SAFEKey supports the ‘Safer Suffolk Foundation’, the Constabulary’s charitable arm, which funds local grassroots Suffolk based charities.

Matthew Lindsay, Keycare’s associate director commented: “It’s great to witness the growing interest in SAFEkey, which enables participants to access Keycare’s comprehensive database of locksmiths to secure their home following any incident.”

“Keycare is proud to support the Suffolk Show. The strong turnout at the Suffolk Constabulary stand and the positive response to SAFEkey has seen an increasing number of people sign up for the service, which saves them a great deal of stress and inconvenience if something goes wrong.”

As the price of replacing keys continues to rocket - in some instances electronically programmed keys can cost as much as £1,000 or more to replace - Keycare’s products provide reassurance to customers if they lose their keys.

Keycare provides recovery and replacement for any type of keys attached to a Keycare fob, including both personal and business keys, up to £1,500. There is a 24 hour emergency helpline, 365 days a year and access to a nationwide network of locksmiths.
