5th International Banking and Finance Forum focusing on restoring growth and confidence

The International Business and Diplomatic Exchange (IBDE) will bring together more than 200 business leaders alongside distinguished speakers at the 5th International Banking and Finance Forum as part of the International Festival for Business 2014.

Given the heading, ‘Restoring Growth and Confidence in World Markets’, it’s a key event in the IFB providing a platform to explore ways of financing economic growth and the role that banks and finance should play in the economy to help UK and the world prosper.

The Forum will bring together senior decision-makers, business people, institutional investors, trade and exports finance professionals, chambers of commerce, investment managers, trade, economic and financial experts and the media.

Rudi Guraziu, Chief Executive of IBDE said: “In the past five years many countries in the world have experienced profound banking crises, sometimes leading to costly bank bailouts, bank failures and overall disruption in economic activity.”

“The changes in the banking landscape and banking crises have focused policy makers’ and industry participants’ attention on the appropriate role and structure of banking supervision and regulation. The subsequent sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone and the complex relationship between sovereign and bank debt created further problems for policymakers.”

“The crisis has also demonstrated the global interconnectedness of the financial system. The vulnerabilities exposed in the crisis affect banks and states globally while regulatory policy is organised along national boundaries – raising further difficult policy coordination issues in the international regulatory field.”

“We need a concerted approach to address these international crisis and continue to stimulate economic growth. One way to do this, is to enhance the access to funding for SMEs, therefore banks and finance should play a key role in effectively financing the so called real economy and help set the economic growth back on track. We are looking forward to explore these issues in detail at the Forum.”

The Forum will provide the delegates and the media an opportunity to hear from more than 20 prominent international speakers, including:

• Doug Barrow, Deputy Chairman of Policy, City of London

• Marcelino Castrillo, Managing Director, SME Banking, Santander

• Robert Elliott, Chairman and Senior Partner, Linklaters

• Simon Featherstone, Global CEO, Bibby Financial Services

• Ian Johnston, Chief Executive, Dubai Financial Services Authority

• Joe Moynihan, Director for Financial Services, States of Jersey

• Tanuja Randery, President, Strategy and Transformation, BT Global Services

• Lady Susan Rice, Managing Director, Lloyds Banking Group Scotland

• Jonathan Taylor, Vice President, European Investment Bank

• Simon Walker, Director General, Institute of Directors

IBDE is the official international partner of IFB 2014 and have organised and delivered successfully a number of events during IFB 2014, including its annual Global Economic Forum, that have helped many attendees to gain an update on challenges and opportunities into new markets, develop their international trade potential and maximise networking opportunities.
