As the 1st anniversary of my redundancy loomed in June I had time to reflect on how things had progressed since I set up my own business, Fluid Web Development, in October 2013. It was a whole new world for me, running my own business, as although I had worked as a contractor in the past, this was my first time having to get used to marketing myself and networking, as work had always just “been there” in the past!

June actually got off to a brilliant start for me, as I won Project North East (PNE) Business of the Month. As a respected start up enterprising organisation, this news was seen by a lot of people and my thankfully busy work load really took off.

Then at the end of June, I celebrated winning the Business Achievement Award for 2014 in collaboration with PNE Enterprises and Enterprising Newcastle. The main reasons for winning the award included the honest and approachable way that my business is run, my delivery of IT presentations for PNE and Newcastle council & the positive feedback from attendees, my commitment to working with fellow start up North East businesses (photography, SEO, Graphic Design), quality of work and customer feedback and the sharing of a number of my ‘Blogs’ on respected business websites.

The nominees were selected by a number of the North East’s main enterprising bodies, who were looking for individuals who have achieved something exceptional and impressive.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the next few months bring, and hope to continue growing my business, as I am thoroughly enjoying what I do.

I would also like to say thank you to PNE who continue to give me such great advice and support. Anybody thinking of starting a business should talk to these guys first.
