MBNA triumph at World Corporate Games
MBNA is celebrating sporting success after taking two gold medals at this year’s World Corporate Games, one of the flagship events at the International Festival of Business (IFB) in Liverpool.
A team of MBNA staff were crowned Mixed Touch Rugby Champions 2014 and Gareth Frost from MBNA’s Corporate Operations team won the Squash 30-39s at the Games.
Matthew Owen, eCommerce Channel Analyst at MBNA helped to organise MBNA’s participation in the Games. He said: “A lot of our teams came together specifically for the competition and only started training a few weeks ago, so to win the Touch Rugby event and for Gareth to be crowned squash champion are fantastic achievements.
“The Games gave people who might work in an office all day the chance to be professional athletes for the day. It also gave us all an opportunity to work together as one team with a collective goal. We were delighted to have been part of the event and having the prestige of winning two gold medals is the icing on the cake.”
The World Corporate Games attracts more than 6,000 athletes each year. Participants compete in 24 sports for more than one thousand medals.
In total, MBNA competed in six different sports, securing nine medals and finishing 22nd in a medal table of approximately 150 UK businesses.
