Jobs created as Ladhar Leisure open £700k Newcastle smokehouse venture
Hospitality and healthcare group Ladhar Leisure is set to open a £700k smokehouse and brewery venture in Newcastle, creating 30 jobs.
Following the launch of its city centre Pleased to Meet You venue last year, the North Shields-based operator is due to open ‘Hop & Cleaver’ - based in a Jacobean property on the city’s quayside.
Ladhar have based the venue on an American concept of smoking locally sourced meat and cooking it slowly for up to 16 hours.
Hop & Cleaver will also host its own brewery via a joint venture with Houghton-le-Spring brewers Temptation. It will produce its own exclusive beers, and will offer punters the chance to see the brewers in action.
The venue will stock over 50 rare bourbons from the USA to compliment that fare from its two imported meat smokers.
Designer, and two time Northern Interior Designer of the Year, Simon McIlwraith said: “I would like people to walk in and see something they’ve never seen before.
“Ultimately they should walk away and feel they’ve been part of something special. As a designer, that’s always important.”
Located in the former Offshore site on Sandhill, Hop & Cleaver will officially open its doors to the public on Friday July 25 at 6 pm.
