Local business tunes in to charity attempt
A Teesside-based communications company has pledged its support for a global charity bike ride.
Eemits Communications, based in Billingham, has donated vital radio equipment to the Heel & Toe Children’s Charity to help with a 2,400 mile bike ride from Durham to Greece.
The equipment will provide essential safety provisions for the four-strong ‘H20’ cycling team riding to raise money for the charity which helps children with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities.
Eemits Communications provides cutting-edge wireless technologies to deliver bespoke communications solutions.
Craig Matthews, managing director of Eemits Communications commented: “We are very happy to be supporting such an important, local charity. It’s a fantastic way to raise money and we are pleased to be playing our part. We wish the cycling team the best of luck and will be following their journey.”
The generous company was alerted to the charity’s needs after a call via social media and was more than happy to offer its services. The radio equipment will allow the cyclists to maintain contact with each other and their support driver.
The cycle begins on August 1 and will take 21 days to complete. It will involve a gruelling 135,000 feet of climbing over the Alps, culminating in the team’s arrival at the original Olympic arena, Archea Olimpia, in Greece.
The charity hopes to raise £5000 to go towards building a new centre in Pelton, Durham, with plans to include a sensory room. Sensory rooms are proven to improve skills such as hearing, sight, hand-eye coordination and language skills.
Adam Marshall, ambassador of the Heel & Toe Charity and serving member of the Royal Navy, will be taking part in the cycle. He commented: “It means a great deal to have the support of Eemits Communications for this big venture. It will mean our riders are safe, and hopefully we can have some conversation to help along the way too!
“Everyone doing the cycle is either a serving or former member of the Royal Navy so we know what hard work feels like.”
The H20 bike riders will be updating their blogs and social media accounts during the ride for people to keep up-to-date on their progress.
