Newcastle creatives land nomination for top design work on Lane7
A Newcastle based creative agency has been handed a prestigious nomination for one of the international design industry’s top awards.
Wonder Stuff Studio in Gosforth has received notification from the German Design Council that its branding and design work for Lane7, the Newcastle boutique bowling alley, has been nominated for its 2015 ceremony.
The German Design Council has just celebrated its 60th anniversary and is considered one of the most well respected international voices on excellence in design.
Kevin Robson, head of projects at Wonder Stuff said: “We have to admit it came as a bit of a bolt from the blue. We thought it was a wind up at first!
“We received a letter from them explaining their committee had spotted the work we had done on Lane7 and felt it deserved nomination for the 2015 corporate and brand design category for excellent communication.
“It’s hard to know who we’re up against. Creative work for the likes of Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand and Audi in China were winners at the 2014 ceremony recently, so its quite pleasing to know we’re putting the North East’s brilliant creative environment on a world platform.”
The esteemed judging panel, which consists of some of Europe’s finest names in creative and design, will now sit and consider Wonder Stuff’s work on Lane7 alongside other nominated projects from across the world.
Results will be announced towards the end of the year, with the council’s annual ceremony held early in 2015 at its Frankfurt headquarters.
In the nomination notification, Andrej Kupetz, general manager of the German Design Council, said: “The quality of your design has attracted our attention. Your drafts set themselves apart from the masses, are convincing down to the last detail and consequently represent a pioneering contribution to the international design scene.”
Wonder Stuff’s work for Lane7 included initial branding and logo, with its distinctive ambigram design, and has continued into a range of design and branded elements including web design, brochure and promotional items for the venue, which was recently shortlisted for its interior finish for the upcoming International Restaurant and Bar Awards.
Wonder Stuff Studio, located in Gosforth, was established by Paul Alderson in 2009. In that time it has worked closely with the likes of Channel4, Barnados, Children North East, the NHS and a raft of UK-wide leisure and hospitality operations.
A raft of recent client wins means the organisation is now on the hunt for more creative and business support staff to expand its team.
