Homebuilders donate £6k to County Durham nursery
A consortium of homebuilders working in the Craghead area of County Durham have combined forces to donate £6000 to a local childcare centre – enabling the centre to purchase resources and equipment needed for their outdoor area.
Dunelm Homes, ESH Group and Persimmon Homes have pledged £6000 to the Craghead Childcare Centre, close to the Middles Farm Village development of new homes in County Durham. Thanks to their generosity, the nursery will now be able to develop their outdoor spaces to meet the growing demand for places at the nursery from the local community.
Janice Kelly, Trust Manager commented; “Craghead Childcare Centre is a not for profit community based day nursery which serves the heart of the local community. Under the umbrella of the Craghead Development Trust, we consider ourselves to be a vital service for local families in need of quality early education and childcare within their own community.
“We will now be putting the very generous donation from Dunelm Homes, ESH Group and Persimmon Homes to excellent use and push forward in our plans to develop the outdoors. It’s an exciting development for all at the nursery and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you on behalf of all our staff and more importantly, the children, who will now have greater access to outdoor play and learning opportunities.”
Craghead Childcare Centre provides 38 places for local children in the age range of 0 – 5years. Included are free places for all 3 to 4 year olds delivering early education and free early years provision for some two year olds.
Steve Murray, managing director of Dunelm Homes commented; “With our Middles Farm Village development situated so close to the Craghead Childcare Centre we were of course keen to look at ways to support the local community and the valuable services the centre provides. We are pleased to see that through our donation and that of ESH Group and Persimmon Homes, the nursery facilities will have the opportunity to accommodate the needs of existing and new families moving into the area.”
The nursery facilities are managed by the Craghead Development Trust which was established to improve the lives and livelihoods of people living in the Craghead/Middles area. As well as the nursery, the Trust manage the Burnside Resource Centre, providing activities for the local community as well as purchasing empty properties which through the provision of government grants, are refurbished to rent to local people.
