Yorkshire architects and healthcare developers unveil £2.2 million Carlisle medical centre

Leeds-based firms QAD Architects and specialist healthcare developer OneMedicalProperty, part of OneMedicalGroup, have unveiled a £2.2 million medical centre in Carlisle.

Work on the new build North Carlisle Medical Centre, designed by QAD on behalf of OneMedicalProperty, started in June 2013 with handover to new tenants, North Carlisle Medical Practice and Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, taking place earlier this year.

The 1442 square metre 2.5 storey new build has already received an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating, a globally recognised assessment standard that recognises a building’s environmental performance.

QAD director Paul Wainwright explained: “One Medical and QAD worked together on the tender for the building development which was awarded in 2009 with OneMedical leasing the building to the practice for the next 25 years.

“The over-arching consideration in the design of the building was to create a facility that delivered a high level of integration between primary and community services with a high quality patient experience from the point of entry to departure,” added Paul.

Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, chief executive of One Medical Group commented: “This new centre has raised the bar in terms of design with QAD delivering a scheme that considers both the importance of the patient experience and the need to integrate health and community resources.”

Founded in 2005, QAD Architects is based at the Greenhouse in South Leeds and focuses primarily on architecture within the health and residential sectors, but also carries out education and commercial work.
