hlw Keeble Hawson shortlisted for Yorkshire Legal Awards

hlw Keeble Hawson is among a trio of finalists in The Yorkshire Legal Awards 2014 Private Client category.

The firm’s Private Client team has been shortlisted on criteria which include major achievements, overcoming obstacles, dedication to clients along with contribution to the community and pro bono activities.

One of the region’s largest law firms with offices across Sheffield, Leeds and Doncaster, the Private Client team has adapted to wider challenges by setting up sector specialisms which include launching a Court of Protection sub-department in 2012 which has grown year on year.

Additional successes include establishing a dedicated charity sector team in 2010 and hosting biannual forums with keynote speakers to encourage best practice.

Partner Michele Todd is a legal trustee at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and partner Alex Guy runs a weekly legal clinic at the Weston Park Cancer Support Centre.

Donating 750 pro bono hours across the last 18 months, the team provides free advice to organisations including Age UK Sheffield, has helped St Luke’s Hospice to help raise over £60k - and has spearheaded legacy campaigns to benefit Rotherham charities Lost Chord which helps people with dementia and Safe at Last which supports children and young people at risk.

A champion of helping to develop the next generation of lawyers, hlw Keeble Hawson has also been shortlisted for a pro bono scheme run with Sheffield Hallam University which gives law students practical experience of working in a professional legal environment.

The team’s Wills and Probate department has also partnered with the University to help elderly residents in Sheffield to compile their wills.

Said hlw Keeble Hawson senior partner Ron Whitlam: “We believe this shortlisting is well deserved. It not only reflects the firm’s innovation in expanding our offering but also reinforces our commitment to our valued clients, partners, communities and charities across the region.”
