Hull based architectural supplier Eltherington goes creative for Viacom

Hull-based Eltherington, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of architectural aluminium and stainless steel, has helped create a living wall on the new headquarters of media company Viacom, in London.

The Hull-based company supplied the new building with door and window surrounds in Polyester Powder Coated (PPC) aluminium.

Aluminium was specified for these elements by London-based architects Jacobs Webber through their client Taurus Littrow because it is a low maintenance material that is 100% recyclable, which helped retain the ‘living walls’ green credentials.

Eltherington operates a 6 acre manufacturing facility in Hull and is able to supply a wide range of standard and bespoke solutions for building facades, roofline, column casings, perforated panels and spandrel panels along with internal cladding.

The company worked closely with Taurus Littrow and project architects, Jacobs Webber and PAAS to ensure that the window and door surrounds incorporated a top gutter and the colour was a specific metallic.

A spokesperson from Jacobs Webber Architects said: “We specified Eltherington because they were able to supply a low maintenance, aesthetically pleasing, sustainable solution for the living wall.

“Eltherington was able to work with our window and doors suppliers on what was a short lead-time on a relatively constricted site in terms of vehicle access.”

Michael Riding, director at Eltherington, said: “We were delighted to be chosen to supply our aluminium solutions by Taurus Littrow and the contract architects for the living wall on the Viacom Building.

“Our experience of working on large sustainably-built projects such as this enabled us to identify a bespoke solution that integrated seamlessly with the other building elements.”

Eltherington’s window and door cladding has played its part in helping the project achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating for environmental impact, and a Silver standard SKA rating. Operated by RICS, SKA Rating is an environmental assessment tool for sustainable fit-outs.

Eltherington has provided high quality aluminium solutions to a range of sustainable projects throughout the UK, and overseas. Many of these have won critical acclaim, including The Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Bridgewater Place Leeds, and the RIBA award-winning London Southbank University.
