Law firm expands with the creation of five jobs

Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors has created five new jobs in the four months to July 2014, proving, contrary to recent reports, that it is not all doom and gloom in the employment market in the North East, nor for British legal firms.

As well as creating five new posts, it has recruited a further four new staff members to fill vacated positions. The regional law firm announced this good news shortly after the Office of National Statistics revealed that unemployment has fallen across the UK with the exception of the North East, where the number of unemployed increased by 6,000 in the quarter to April 2014. There have also recently been several reports in Legal Week of redundancies in legal firms as support roles are cut.

Four of the new posts are in the firm’s Conveyancing department, based in Hartlepool, with the fifth new position in the Commercial Property team, part of the Business Law department, based at Wynyard Park.

Victoria Christie, who lives locally, has joined Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors as a Property Solicitor. She has known of the firm for many years, having been brought up in the area, and has moved from TMJ Legal Services, in Durham, to work in Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitor’s Hartlepool office. She said: “It’s exciting to be working in an expanding area of the business, especially within a well-respected local firm I’ve known of for many years. As well as the challenge the new job presents me with, my reduced commute makes a big difference to family life. These two factors together make this the ideal job for me.”

Christine Wise, 56, from Hartlepool, has recently been appointed to a new Conveyancing Administrator post after six weeks of redundancy. She had worked for Yuill Homes for 23 years until the company went into administration in March. She commented: “I realised once I started looking for a new job how few were advertised in Hartlepool. A former colleague forwarded details of roles advertised by Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors, and though my initial application wasn’t successful, the HR department came back to me suggesting I might be suitable for this new role in the Conveyancing department.

“I feel very lucky to be working with a lovely team here at Tilly Bailey & Irvine. I genuinely thought my only option would be a job some distance away, so to find new jobs being created a short bus ride from home was perfect.”

John Hall, Managing Partner for Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors, added: “We all know how much this region’s economy has suffered in recent years, and Hartlepool in particularly has struggled. The Partners and I are proud that we are in a position to expand areas of our service, and create new jobs here.”

Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors is the Tees Valley’s largest full service law firm with offices in Hartlepool, Wynyard Park, Stockton on Tees and Barnard Castle.
