Manchester hotel donates World Cup competition footballs to local school

A hotel in Manchester has helped to kick-off a primary school sports day by donating new equipment.

Campanile Hotel Manchester in Ordsall Lane, Salford, has donated 75 footballs to Larkhill Community Primary School in Liverpool Street, Salford, after hosting a World Cup competition.

The new kit was presented to year four pupils during their annual summer sports day and will help to enhance football activities available next academic year.

Craig Hodgkinson, general manager at Campanile Hotel Manchester, hopes the donation will help the youngsters score future sporting success.

He said: “The footballs were initially purchased as part of our World Cup Twitter competition where we invited people to guess how many footballs could fit into one of our Campanile SMART cars.

“Once the competition was concluded we were left with 75 footballs – and a great opportunity to help a local school.

“We really wanted to make a positive contribution and support sports activities available for youngsters in the local area.

“Larkhill Community Primary School already provides fantastic football opportunities and who knows the new equipment may even help to develop the next Wayne Rooney.”

Julie Francis, PE teacher at Larkhill Community Primary School, said: “The new equipment will be of great benefit to the children at the school as football already plays a huge part in their sports development.

“Children from Year One upwards play football regularly with sessions held at lunchtime, during PE lessons and after school clubs.

“We last purchased footballs around two years ago and a lot of them are now in poor shape so the donation couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We are extremely grateful to Campanile Hotel Manchester and it was great that they were able to see the children in action during our annual sports day. I know a lot of the children are already looking forward to a good kick around next term.”
