Miller Homes Helps To Build The Workforce Of Tomorrow

Miller Homes has welcomed the construction industry’s workforce of tomorrow to its Wheatlands Chase development in Redcar as a group of local students gained experience of daily site life.

As part of the educational site visit 13 students, aged from 13 to 18, completing a Level 1 in Construction at Redcar and Cleveland Training Centre visited the leading housebuilder’s 158-home development on Redcar Lane.

During the visit the students were given an induction from the site manager on housebuilding, talks on health and safety and they also enjoyed the opportunity to see first-hand the various stages of construction, from laying the foundations to the final fixes and flooring.

Miller Homes North East’s Andrew Somerville said: “At Miller Homes we believe it is vital to offer those interested in working in construction the opportunity to experience the industry. We are delighted to have been able to give the students from Redcar and Cleveland Training Centre the chance to gain invaluable insight before they start their careers.

“By encouraging people to move into construction and making sure that the pipeline of future talent is kept healthy we can help ensure a prosperous industry committed to building high quality homes and creating sustainable communities for future generations. This is something that is at the heart of our ethos.”

Stuart Laing from Redcar and Cleveland Training Centre added: “The site visit to Miller Homes’ Wheatlands Chase development was extremely insightful for the students. They were welcomed onto the site and offered some great hands on experience of working in construction.

“As a training centre it is important that we offer our students the most comprehensive education that we can to help prepare them for their future careers. Being given the opportunity by Miller Homes to visit a live site has given them an invaluable understanding of the industry.”
