TEDCO Business Support celebrates creating almost 1,000 jobs in its first year

Just twelve months after its establishment the North East, TEDCO Business Support is celebrating a string of achievements which has seen almost 1,000 new jobs being created in the region during its first year.

Having been formed last summer as a spin out company from TEDCO Ltd, which was founded in 1984, TEDCO Business Support has facilitated the creation of more than 600 new business ventures in the region resulting in a further 300 additional job opportunities being provided within start-up enterprises across the North East.

Carole White, head of business and operations at TEDCO Business Support said; “Our first year has surpassed many of our expectations. We have successfully developed our reputation for enterprise support right across the North East region by entering new geographic territories and through the expansion of our team of experts who provide tailored and intensive guidance we are able to help many more people in even more areas.

“We have continued to develop our relationships with a range of national partners including Virgin Start Up and Barclays. A key focus over the last twelve months has been on ensuring that start-up ventures not only create employment opportunities for the business owner themselves, but with our support, enable them to develop a sustainable, growing operation which provides further job prospects for others.

TEDCO Business Support offers a cohesive and sustainable range of support packages for the benefit of individual clients and the North East economy.

As a member of the Cavendish Consortium, the agency continues to deliver the Government-backed Ready for Business start-up programme in the North East; the region has now gone on to achieve the highest number of additional jobs anywhere in the country as part of the scheme which is funded by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills via the Regional Growth Fund initiative and in association with Barclays.

Carole White added; “This region has long been seen as a very entrepreneurial part of the country; there is no shortage of individuals with a wealth of talent and commercially-minded approach keen to make their mark. It is essential for anybody looking to embark upon the challenge of setting up a new business that they have access to the right kind of ongoing support.

“Establishing and running a business can be a very demanding and isolating experience – and we are confident that we know and understand what a would-be business owner needs and this is reflected with our excellent first year achievements.”

The coming year will see the implementation of a number of key initiatives including the provision of enterprise support out of Business Central, the business growth hub at Central Park in Darlington which is seen as a significant catalyst for commercial development in the area.

As well as advice in all aspects of business start-up, TEDCO Business Support’s team of experienced business advisors can offer specialist guidance and training in many areas including accessing finance, managing cash flow, marketing and legal and taxation obligations.
