Durham student receives prestigious engineering award
A promising engineer has been presented with a top industry award from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East.
Jonathan Rex, a graduate from Durham University, was given the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Student Prize 2014 for his impressive academic performance and talent in engineering design.
Each year, ICE North East presents the award to one Durham University student for their achievements in the penultimate and final years of the four year course.
Jonathan, who is from Dronfield, near Sheffield, secured a first class degree in MEng Civil Engineering, and is now preparing to start work as an intervention engineer for BP.
Penny Marshall, ICE Regional Director for the North East, said: “The ICE Student Prize is always a highly contested award and recognises talented, young engineers, and Jonathan is a deserving winner.
“Jonathan has performed extremely well throughout his degree and his first class results are a reflection of his hard work and talent. Jonathan has a bright future ahead of him, and I would like to wish him all the best with his career in engineering.”
Jonathan said: “I am delighted with the award, which was unexpected, as there were a lot of good candidates in my class, as Durham University has an excellent engineering course. It is nice to be recognised with such a prestigious award, and to see all of my hard work pay off.”
