Fans can enjoy the Queen of Country at North East festival

It’€™ll be a case of “Hello Dolly” at Sunderland’s Sanctuary festival, thanks to a talented tribute act set to showcase the singer’s hits this August bank holiday. Dolly Parton has earned herself a host of new fans, thank to her appearance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Organisers of a North East event have decided to inject it with a bit of Dolly magic of their own, by including one of the UK’s top tribute acts on their line-up.

The Dolly Parton Story will be performing on Sunday 24 August as part of Sanctuary, a three day festival place in and around Sunderland Minster.

The weekend, which will run from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 August, will also see the likes of the Jazz Pistols, George Shovlin Duo, Sir Jac Bantamax, The Heavenly Thrillbillies and North East quartet, Scarlet Street. Along with the musical line-up there will also be variety of street food stalls, including the Longhorns Barbeque Smokehouse, and real ale vendors including the Double Maxim brewery.

Sanctuary – which is free during the day – is designed to showcase some of the best talent in the region and will see a whole programme of events taking place, for the family during the day and an adult audience in the evenings.

The festival, organised by Seaburn Rotary in conjunction with a group of key stakeholders, aims to boost the funding for a variety of good causes and is sponsored by Sunderland Business Improvement District and See It, Do It, Sunderland.

Gemma Dishman, one of the organisers of Sanctuary said: â€This year’s Sanctuary festival will be bigger and better than ever before.

“With more music and more entertainment than before this year’s Sanctuary programme promises something for everyone with everything from jazz to country.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase the talent that Sunderland and rest of the North East have to offer whilst raising money for a range of good causes.“

Along with giving visitors the chance to enjoy a host of entertainment and activities the weekend also offers local businesses the chance to get involved in helping the region, with a number of sponsorship opportunities available. The first Sanctuary event was held over May Bank Holiday weekend and the organisers now hope to hold a similar event four times a year.
