North East firm wins major NHS contracts with support from Newcastle Science City
Newcastle Science City supported web-based patient management company, Cievert Ltd., has completed deals which will see the roll out of its software across two major NHS Foundation Trusts in Nottingham and Colchester.
The Newcastle-based company was set up three years ago by former NHS radiographer, Chris Kennelly, who wanted to create innovative products for the health sector.
CaS-per, which is a web-based patient management system for radiotherapy and chemotherapy patients, the software aims to reduce patient waiting times.
Initially developed by Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cievert was spun out commercially in 2011.
The company went on to develop a brand, website and a business development strategy for its innovative CaS-per software, with business support from Newcastle Science City, including advice on how to sell into the NHS.
The Academic Health Science Network for North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC) also supported Cievert in taking on its first member of staff earlier this year, with a second employee in the pipeline, due to start in September.
Since then, the company has increased turnover for the first quarter this year by over 900% compared with last year, benefitting up to 30,000 patients across the UK, and saving the NHS a projected £100,000.
Chris Kennelly, managing director, said: “I’m delighted to have secured contracts with two large NHS Foundation Trusts. It was always my aim to create a product which would be innovative and, ultimately, beneficial to the end user – the patient.
“With so much pressure on the NHS currently, I truly believe that this software can make a difference. It is a proven concept, having been piloted in the North East already. Now I aim to make sure that as many cancer patients as possible can benefit from the efficiencies that this software can bring to their treatment.”
