£15 million Northumbrian holiday home development to create 100 jobs
Entrepreneur William Kiely, owner of Burgham Park Golf Club in Northumberland, has invested in £15 million Northumbrian Hills holiday home development.
Northumbrian Hills will have 50 stone cottages priced from £235k. Brims Construction have been appointed on the project.
Once the 50 holiday homes are built, the second phase is to build a pavilion, which will house a fine-dining restaurant, cafes, bars and a leisure centre, complete with a pool, spa and gymnasium.
Kiely is also planning a third stage to Northumbrian Hills: a world-class golf academy.
William Kiely told Bdaily: “I got involved with Burgham Park Golf Club back in 2001 as part of a consortium, but I am now the sole owner. When I came over at that time, I simply fell in love with Northumberland. Everything about it appealed to me, the people, the countryside, the coastline; it’s actually very similar to Ireland in a lot of ways.
Even all those years ago, I could see that tourism in Northumberland was ready to take off so that got my brain ticking. When I sold my business interests in Ireland in 2006, I decided to move over here permanently and started properly planning for the Northumbrian Hills resort development the following year. It’s taken seven hard years to get to this stage, but I believe it will be worth it in the end.“
The holiday home development and the resort will create between 40 - 60 construction jobs whilst it’s being developed.
Kiely said: “When everything is complete, I would expect between 50 - 60 people to be employed by Northumbrian Hills. As it’s a fully managed resort complex with so many facilities there’ll be all sorts of jobs from operational managers to chefs to domestic staff.”
