Virtual training centre provides hands-on approach to more than 100 staff

Sierra Support Services Group - one of the leading outsource service providers in Ireland and UK is leading the way in its commitment to training its staff members through a new onsite training centre.

Designed by Sierra’s project management and training teams, more than 100 engineers and support staff will benefit from a range of bespoke in-house Fire and Safety (FAS) training programmes.

Based in Dunboyne, Co Meath, the course was designed in 2013 to offer a more practical environment and replicate a range of work at height scenarios, including vertical wall access, pitched roof access and flat roof access.

Jerry Collins, UK managing director for Sierra, explains: “Previous training didn’t address the complexities of working on off-road terrain, including access and machine set-up challenges.

“The centre has allowed us to make the training as realistic as possible to mirror real-life scenarios which is crucial for our staff members to help prepare them for any situation especially when it involves health and safety.

“We hope the centre will continue to develop and mirror the changes and challenges taking place within our industry so that our teams are fully equipped with all the knowledge they need. Our UK teams will also benefit from the facility as training for all staff will take place here at the new facility.”

The training centre features two living rooms to train service technicians in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, a purpose built house to provide an ‘in-the-home’ space filled with relevant equipment, including telecommunications devices, boilers and budget controllers.

The centre is also installed with several boilers and a budget meter to provide home energy service engineers with training of the types of boilers and meters that are dealt with on a daily basis.
