New HQ for Opus following business growth

A successful North East business has moved to bigger offices to accommodate its growing workforce.

Opus Building Services, specialist electrical and mechanical contractors, have moved to Boldon Court from their previous headquarters at the Quadrus Centre, Boldon. The company was previously based at the Sunderland Business Innovation Centre for five years.

Gavin Richardson, Managing Director of Opus Building Services, said: “We were anticipating the workforce growing so started looking for alternative offices. We chose to relocate to bigger premises in Boldon because of the high quality labour force available and its close proximity to major road networks for Sunderland, Newcastle and South Tyneside as well as areas north and south of the region such as Stockton and Teesside.”

The company, founded in 2006, grew from one employee to 20 within five years and now employs close to one hundred people.

The move comes as the company has enjoyed year-on-year growth and hit a our target of £8m turnover this year, with further growth forecast next year.

Gavin added: “We’re focused on quality, service and hard work as well as good business practices and ethos which I think has helped contribute towards our growth during the recession.

“The worst of the recession appears to be over but many businesses will face a challenge in terms of labour and a skills deficit. However I don’t believe this will be an issue for our business as we have a low turnover of staff and a loyal, skilled workforce.

“As we’ve built a solid reputation we enjoy lots of repeat business from our valuable customers and have experienced year-on-year growth since the company was created in 2006. We have a north east focus but because of the growth and our reputation, we are picking up more and more contracts nationally.

“We have hit our target of an £8m turnover this year and as the order books look reasonably full we’re projecting a £10-12m turnover next year.”
