Help to Buy gives family a fresh start

A South Petherton headmaster living on a single salary is looking forward to making a fresh start thanks to the Government backed Help to Buy scheme.

Wayne Higgins was determined to live in the town and had rented a large detached barn while waiting for the right property to come along.

When he saw the houses being built by Persimmon Homes South West at Farley Fields he knew they were right for his family and bought a home off-plan without even setting foot in it.

Wayne, 40, who has been the headteacher at Kingsbury Episcopi Primary School for the past five years, is due to move into his new three-bedroom detached home in August with his two children.

He said: “It is the perfect location for us as the school is only five minutes away. I knew the property was right the moment I saw the layout. I liked the space it had and obviously the location and quickly decided to buy it.

“The service Persimmon offered was amazing and their sales advisor talked me through the whole process and put me in touch with a mortgage advisor who found me the best deal.

“I used Help to Buy because it meant I only needed a low deposit and it made it more affordable for me.

“What has been nice is that, as a family, we have been able to watch our home being built from the ground up – foundations, the walls going up, the garden taking shape and the internal fit-out. It has been very exciting.

“South Petherton is a wonderful place as it has all the services we need, such as parks and clubs for the children. It is very child friendly and has a great community spirit”

South Petherton is only nine miles from the bustling town of Yeovil, providing great facilities for homeowners with Ilminster just five miles away. It has great access to the A303 for commuters with Taunton only a short distance away and Bristol just over an hour away.

Nina Hester, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes South West, said: “Farley Fields is proving very popular and it is easy to see why as it does offer the best of both worlds.

“It is not only surrounded by rural countryside, it is also well placed to reach larger towns and has great facilities, including a post office, library, a hospital, pubs and restaurants.”

Help to Buy is a Government-backed shared equity scheme where buyers only need a 5% deposit and are eligible for a 20% loan on the term of a mortgage, which is interest and repayment free for the first five years.
