Lynemouth Power joins forces with The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion, known to millions for the work it does helping past and present British servicemen and their families, hosted a charity golf tournament at Newbiggin Golf Club to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
The event was a huge success, with 42 teams representing many local businesses and members of the community taking part. The total amount raised on the day was £3,200 in much-needed funds for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Local employer Lynemouth Power Limited sponsored the event and donated £1,600 to the charity in addition to providing trophies and various raffle prizes, including a mini-break hotel voucher and golfing equipment.
Alan Millar, project manager at Lynemouth Power Limited, whose son Robert is a serving Corporal in the Royal Scottish Dragoon Guards, presented the power station’s donation to Keith Laws, The Royal British Legion - Northumbria County chairman and recruiting officer Paul McClintock.
He said: “We had a fantastic day raising money for an important cause. It’s been great to see so many people in the local community get involved and show their support.
“Although it is now over 50 years since the last world war, demand for the Legion’s services is increasing. As a company, Lynemouth Power Limited is extremely proud to support The Royal British Legion and its volunteers in the vital work they do helping past and present members of the British armed services.”
Another local company who is an on-site contractor at Lynemouth Power, PYEROY, based in Gateshead also took part in the tournament and donated £500 to the charity.
Speaking on behalf of The Royal British Legion, Keith Laws, Northumbria County chairman, said: “We are delighted that Lynemouth Power Limited agreed to sponsor the Poppy Appeal Golf Tournament this year, with their help and the other sponsors we more than doubled last years total.”
