New layouts to be unveiled at railway show

Innovative railway modelling layouts which have not been shown in public before will be unveiled at a ground-breaking show at the Ricoh Arena next month.

RMweb Live, which is being organised by Warners Shows, will feature 28 attention-grabbing layouts as part of an event to attract railway modellers of all ages and abilities from 10am on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14.

Six skills zones dedicated to specific modelling techniques or innovation will be set-up in the Jaguar Exhibition Hall focusing on modelling, scenery, painting, technology, track work and electrics.

Specialist exhibitors from across the UK will be attending to showcase their equipment and in the technology zone, there will be practical demonstrations on using 3D printing, tree making, creating rough groundcover and how to fit digital command control decoders to locomotives to help visitors improve their modelling.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend RMweb Live and as well as providing free car-parking at the Ricoh Arena’s on-site car-parks, a free shuttle bus will run to and from Coventry railway station.

Sally Dodds, head of events at Warners Shows, said this was a new-look show for railway modelling enthusiasts from across the UK.

“The response we have had from the trade and modelling fans alike to RMweb Live has been really positive and we’re looking forward to holding a show at the Ricoh Arena for the first time,” she said.

“There are plenty of different elements to meet the different requirements of railway modellers.

“It is fantastic that we will be unveiling some working layouts which have never been shown before since they have a real wow factor when you study in detail the craftsmanship and the amount of detailed work involved.

“It is a chance for visitors to look in detail at the layouts and to experience history through a Great Train Robbery presentation in a blackout tent.

“One of the biggest innovations and exciting developments in railway modelling is 3D printing and experts will be on hand to offer advice and show how it can be used to help teach engineering to children as well as revolutionise the hobby.

“We have combined traditional and modern aspects of railway modelling to create an innovative show for everyone to enjoy.”

Chris Owen, senior events manager at the Ricoh Arena, said keen railway modeller Steve Lamacq from BBC 6 Music would be hosting presentations in the RMweb Theatre.

“The two-day show is packed with plenty of activities to keep visitors entertained for hours,” he said.

“RMWeb Live is perfect for visitors who want to enhance their existing modelling skills, are new to the hobby or simply love browsing.”
