Treske praised for fabulous font in Stockport

~~Treske, the leading North Yorkshire manufacturer of bespoke furniture, kitchens and church furnishings, has designed and supplied a brand-new baptismal font for St George’s Church, Stockport, in Greater Manchester.

The award-winning company, based in Thirsk, has now installed the font at St George’s, where it was recently used for its first baptism.

Justin Bartlett, the owner and managing director of Treske, said: “We were delighted to hear that the font has already been in use. This was a fascinating project for us, as the design of the font had to match the modern environs and spirit of the church.

“The font was constructed out of lightly-fumed oak and designed by Mike McIntosh at our workshops in Thirsk. We were very proud of the result and extremely pleased that the font has been so well received at St George’s,” said Mr Bartlett.

Treske was commissioned to supply the font by the Rev Canon Elaine Chegwin Hall, the vicar of St George’s.

She explained: “I had already heard about Treske from a colleague, who had ordered some chairs from them and they were such beautiful quality. When one of my parishioners then liked what they saw on the Treske website, I asked managing director Justin Bartlett to let me see what he could do.

“Justin came and did sketches and took photos and I was impressed by his care and attention along with that of Mike McIntosh, one of Treske’s designer. And so it proved - Treske did a marvellous job, styling and positioning the font to suit modern baptismal liturgy.

“The font is just fabulous. When water is poured in it, it almost appears like mercury and the silver bowl reflects a white shining light which is noticed by the congregation. It is perfect and I want to thank everyone at Treske for all they have done to make this project a success”.

The first babies to be baptised in the new font were twins Jude and Isaac Phillips, who are pictured with the Vicar, the Revd Canon Elaine Chegwin Hall. Jude and Isaac are the children of parishioners Philip and Anita Phillips.

Mr Bartlett added: “Clearly we are delighted by the warm and positive reaction we have received from our client. Whilst we always strive to do our very best, it is always rewarding to be thanked and praised like this.”
