Tissue manufacturer continues its support of The People’s Kitchen with another bumper donation
SCA in Prudhoe, which manufactures the popular Velvet brand of toilet tissue, has made another bulk donation of thousands of personal care and tissue products to help The People’s Kitchen in Newcastle.
This is the second year SCA has donated thousands of pounds worth of products to the charity, which recently won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the equivalent of an MBE, and the highest honour it could achieve in its field.
Hazel Noble, who leads SCA’s charity committee at Prudhoe Mill, said: “After meeting volunteers last year we were both humbled and inspired by their dedication to help people struggling in difficult and often desperate situations.
“SCA is committed to helping people lead dignified lives, this means providing access to essential everyday products, which is why we continue to support the vital work of The People’s Kitchen.”
The charity is run entirely by un-paid volunteers and operates seven days a week. Its mission is to try and mitigate some of the misery of homelessness by offering love, food, friendship and support to anyone in need.
Bob Eldridge, chair of The People’s Kitchen trustees was delighted with the donation from SCA.
“Everyone knows that we rely on cash and food donations but we also have to look after the personal care of our friends. Toilet rolls and tissues are essential things that many of us take for granted but are much needed to help in the day-to-day running of The Kitchen.”
The People’s Kitchen was started in 1985 by the charity’s late founder Alison Kay. It operates six days a week, 52 weeks a year from the Alison Centre and a dedicated mobile catering unit. There are over 150 volunteers from across the region working in teams to keep the charity and its services running like clockwork.
