Bradford shopping centre adds JD Sports and New Look to retailer list
Sports and fashion retailers New Look and JD Sports have announced that they will open new stores in The Broadway shopping centre in Bradford.
The owners of the centre have forecasted a 78% increase in retail spend and the 40% increase in footfall to the city centre following the opening of The Broadway.
The 10,500sq ft New Look store will house the full line providing a wide range of women’s clothing alongside men’s and teens’ fashion, while the 9,200 sq ft, JD Sports store will offer the full range of footwear, clothing and accessories.
New Look and JD Sports join a number of leading national retailers who have signed up to the Broadway development, including Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Next, Topshop & Topman, River Island and Boots.
Commenting on the announcement, Warren Thompson, group acquisitions manager at JD Sports said: “We look forward to playing a part in The Broadway’s retail offer, which will showcase the best of the UK high street to Bradford. Our new and larger store format will create a fantastic new shopping experience for local customers.”
Sue Jarvis, head of Group Portfolio at New Look said: “We are very pleased to be opening a New Look store in this exciting new retail development which will create an excellent shopping opportunity for the residents of Bradford.”
Keith Mabbett, Westfield’s director of Leasing said:“We’re excited to bring New Look and JD Sports to The Broadway and it is further endorsement of Bradford as a key strategic location for leading UK and international brands.
“We are seeing increasing confidence in Bradford from UK retailers and the city has been recognised as one of the top 10 new development opportunities in the UK.
“The Broadway shopping centre is receiving strong retailer demand and has now well over 50% floor space committed.”
Bradford Council Leader, Cllr David Green, said: “Having these two major retailers signing up to The Broadway is great news for the city. It will be a second store for New Look and a bigger, bolder store for JD Sports.
“This bang-up-to-date development is really progressing well and interest from leading stores is growing all the time.Since Westfield has come on site, we have also had a lot more interest from companies in the whole of the city centre as a place that will make a great shopping destination and a great place to visit.”
Earlier this year major construction works started and are progressing well with major steelworks in place. The Broadway development will create 2,500 new retail jobs on opening and will deliver a significant boost to the local and regional economy.
