Cloud Magic knocked off top-spot by email account management app
myMail, the app from My.com that manages multiple email accounts, has overtaken Cloud Magic as the UK’s most downloaded alternative email app.
According to data provided by the app analytics company Distimo, myMail rose to the top of the alternative email app rating on Android and iOS. The app had more than double the global downloads of other popular apps including Cloud Magic, K-9 Mail and Mailbox, and is the third most popular email app globally, behind only Gmail and Yahoo.
Dmitry Grishin, CEO and co-founder of Mail.Ru Group, maker of myMail, said: “The future of email is mobile, and we have worked hard to build an app and client that are ready for this future. To move to the top of two mobile platforms worldwide proves that we’re moving in the right direction.
“We firmly believe that smartphones and tablets are the preferred platform for email, and we’re aiming to deliver the best possible experience for our users and anyone who wants a sophisticated yet simple way to manage their inbox.”
The figures come just two months after My.com announced the creation of @my.com, the world’s first ever mobile-only email service, accessible through the myMail app. Designed for mobile users from the ground up, the light, intuitive service achieved an industry first in security - bypassing passwords altogether, to better protect accounts from unauthorized access.
myMail offers a host of features designed to appeal to both casual and power mobile email users. The app can manage messages in Gmail, Hotmail, Live, Outlook, MSN, iCloud, AOL, Yahoo mail and my.com accounts, and supports all IMAP and POP3-enabled mailboxes. The latest numbers show the app has been received favorably in the countries known to have well-developed mobile markets, holding the top position in countries such as UK, USA, Canada, Germany, France and Japan.
