Shanklea Sows The Seeds Of Success At Manor Walks

JUNIOR landscape architects in the making have seen their planting efforts flourish as part of an annual gardening competition hosted by Manor Walks Shopping and Leisure.

Pupils from Shanklea Primary School in Cramlington have sown the seeds to their own success this summer after they were announced as the winner of Manor Walks’ 2014 Cramlington in Bloom competition.

As part of the project green-fingered pupils from Beaconhill and Eastlea primary schools joined those from Shanklea for an interactive visit to Azure Garden Centre earlier this year. The session taught the children about the different plant varieties and growing habits before they put their new found gardening skills to the test.

The annual horticultural challenge saw each school design and bring to life their planter at Manor Walks in a bid to educate youngsters on the importance of creating and maintaining vibrancy within the local environment.

The colourful planters were judged by representatives from Manor Walks who named Shanklea Primary School as the 2014 winning school for its inspired design and enthusiastic display.

Bruno Coppola, Manor Walks Shopping and Leisure’s general manager, said: “Offering a relaxing and enjoyable experience to our visitors is extremely important to us and our annual Cramlington in Bloom competition creates an excellent opportunity to involve those living within the Cramlington community in our ventures.

“We were very impressed with each of the entries, which have created a great talking point at the centre, and I’d like to congratulate all of the our aspiring gardeners on their efforts, but the design created by pupils from Shanklea Primary School showed true flair.

“Throughout the competition we have worked closely with Beaconhill, Eastlea and Shanklea primary schools, Cramlington Town Council and Azure Garden Centre to create a strong sense of community pride within local children that will help to maintain as well as enhance our town in years to come.”
