Miller Homes Makes A Splash With Double Commonwealth Champion For A Summer Of Sport

Miller Homes North East has joined forces with a double commonwealth champion as the leading housebuilder welcomes Chris Cook as guest judge of its annual Summer of Sport competition.

The Olympic swimmer, who is preparing to launch his own junior swimming academy Swim Buddies in the region, will join Miller Homes to help judge this year’s entries.

The annual competition from Miller Homes aims to promote fitness within its communities by encouraging local sports clubs and organisations in the North East to enter the competition for the chance to win £500.

To be in with a chance of winning the cash, entrants have to say in no more than 200 words why their sports club deserves to win, how the money will benefit the club and what it will be spent on. Application forms can be collected from any Miller Homes development in the North East.

Chris said: “Miller Homes’ Summer of Sport competition is a fantastic opportunity to help local clubs and organisations boost what they do with much needed finance. Having been involved with sports clubs all my life, I know that this kind of support goes a long way to benefit not only individuals but groups, teachers, and coaches to do what they do so well with extra equipment and training.

“It’s great to see companies such as Miller Homes giving back to the community and encouraging young talent. I am delighted to be working alongside the Miller Homes North East team to support the campaign.”

Chris and judges from Miller Homes will be looking for examples of how the sports clubs in each community will make the most out of the donation, for details of how it will directly support the learning and fitness of its members and examples of what new equipment they will be able to buy.

Miller Homes North East’s regional sales manager, Andrew Somerville, added: “We are delighted to be able to announce the double commonwealth champion Chris Cook as our 2014 guest judge.

“When it comes to supporting local communities we are always keen to get involved, particularly if our support can provide opportunities for education, sport or development, and it is fantastic to have the backing of a local North East athlete.

“Building great communities is at the heart of our ethos and we are confident that initiatives such as Summer of Sport go a long way towards nurturing these. We strongly encourage anyone with an affiliation to a sports team or club to have a go, and wish all entrants the very best of luck.”

Details of the initiative are being distributed at a local level amongst sports clubs and associations and the closing date for entries is Monday 15th September 2014.

Community leaders and club managers can also pick up an entry form at any one of Miller Homes’ marketing suites across the North East including Bishops Park and Park View both in Gateshead, Greenvale Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, Wheatfields in Seaton Delaval, Wensleydale Park in Blyth, The Meadows in Framwellgate Moor, Wheatlands Chase in Redcar, St Mary’s Green and Acklam Woods both in Acklam and Kingsmoor in Stockton.
